Artist Statement

I am currently working as a freelance artist / illustrator and in museum education, and am based in London. My particular interests are in Medieval & "Dark Age" history and art; folklore & fairytales; herbal lore; circus, theatre & puppetry; popular religion & superstition; languages & lettering; books & storytelling; music; environmental, political & social issues; travel & the outdoors.
I mostly use pencils or paint in oils, although I have also used various printing techniques. I am particularly drawn to incorporating words and lettering into the images.
My work experience is varied and includes work in schools, with children with special needs, set painting, work in film and prop making, and in museum education as well as a variety of private commissions and personal projects.
For the future I plan to continue seeking work in the world of book illustration and am working on ideas for writing and illustrating my own stories.
