Artist
Statement:
My work aims to question
painting and challenge its physical limits. I manipulate and disturb the
canvas, forcing the viewer to take a fresh look at painting. My own distinct
language is evident as I confront painting and its possibilities by pushing
it forwards through experiments with layers, marks and often different
materials on the surface of the canvas.
Paint itself is the subject of my work and reality is left behind as I
consider my paintings as gestural experimental abstractions. I want people
to explore my paintings, to discover things, be surprised, intrigued and
to come to their own conclusions.
The process of my work is dynamic and energetic. I choose not to work
on a flat canvas, instead animate it thus the work explodes from the wall.
My painting moves away from the conventions and traditions associated
with the medium in an emphatic yet unorthodox way, blurring the boundaries
between painting and sculpture. The paintings are alive in the sense that
they leap out of the space consequently the viewer is confronted by the
works, resulting in a whole new way of thinking about painting.
