Artist Statement…Messages Series (Light Years)

The Messages Series has arisen from an interest in and continual involvement with sociocultural signs, symbols, and issues of communication. Messages, of which I have created over 2,000, reflect my insights into language, intuitively and intensively constructed, and meditative (physiological and spiritual) in nature. The Messages (Light Years) subset displays a visual eschatology and my symbolic observation of a world in which universal language is realized, in accordance with the Lordship of Jesus Christ (though not through traditional Christian symbols). I have produced Messages in various sizes and formats. These recent drawings on a small scale are meant to create an intimacy, a focus on details as well as on the whole. I normally work with commonplace materials, because they best mirror my interest in the abject and in the fundamental process of art making.

John Yimin, outsiderart.info, writes, "Beamer's art fills a small world between what you see and what you think." This is the most accurate statement I can furnish about my work.

Most of my drawings are framed, although …Light Years is meant to be displayed as one work, with individual pieces being placed side by side, 2" apart. Being text-based, I often leave my framed pieces free standing on a table or pedestal, and/or in a plate holder, the way one would display a book, etc.
