Artist Statement

My work flows from memories and imagined narratives.

It's funny being an artist - you walk around day to day seeing things, but you find yourself taking a second look all the time, distorting, framing and seeing past the actual object or scene.  Everywhere I look I see colour, texture, forms ... an these play on my mind.  I may forget about them for a while, but they'll always be there, evolving.  It might be the twisted shapes of tree roots, or the colour of the sky.  When I paint, it's always an adventure.  I never know what is going to happen and anything seems possible.  It's like my senses combine and take over. Shapes and colours emerge from beneath my fingertips. I feel so focused and alive, calm yet energised.  I know I've been successful when I look at a finished painting and my heart beats faster.
