Statement:
Recently completed a first year BA (hons) Textiles at UWE, 2:1, moving
to the University Of Westminster to study Mixed Media Fine Art in September.
I work using mostly using colour and texture; a lot of my ideas are generated
through the instigation of memories, the feeling of a moment, or some
form of heightened emotion, for example, the fear of loss, or the feeling
of intimidation. I have included a collection of work that I feel shows
a diversity of media. My most recent works show a greater sense of catharsis
than earlier, more colourful works; a concept I feel improves the context
of my work. Concentrating on the content of the pieces has given me a
clearer pathway to choose. Focusing more upon fine art than textile based
pieces, I still use the tangibility of textiles to convey a lot of my
messages. All objects contain a memory, and a memory that I want to suspend
in time, this is the basis for my practices. I feel people should have
a greater sense of sentimentality; memories are what make us who we are
today, even if we do try to bury them. And when trying to forget a memory,
we are inadvertently remembering it in detail.
I’m available for exhibitions, sales and commissions. I’m
looking for any work experience in the fine art/textiles field and am
also very interested in shadowing curators.
All comments very welcome.
