Artist
Statement:
The
artistic practice of British Art Student Christopher Guest blends the
autonomy of Andre Breton with the (in)sanity of the Outsider Artists,
most notably Madge Gill and Adolf Wolfli. His obsessive ritual, consisting
of daily ten hour drawing sessions, can be viewed in itself as a valid
artistic exercise in which he attempts to rid himself of past demons from
an insular adolescence.
In recalling emotions, he draws from a stream of consciousness to create
highly detailed pen and ink works, which one would be excused for thinking
were printed in their aesthetic quality. His chosen medium is an Edding
Profi-Pen with a nib one-tenth the size of a regular biro pen, and it
is in realising this that the viewer is really asked to discern such minute
detail and fanatical mark making.
