Artists Statement:

Special Effects are all about the integration of creative and technical practices to create an outcome for any given brief. Due to this, special effects are an important asset within the Film, Television, Exhibitions and Entertainment industries.

The project shown here is my final year personal project named “Dungeons and Dragons - The Ride”. The physical effects project I set myself was to produce a fully working installation for part of a theme park ride. The project enabled me to show a wide range of my special effects Design, Production and Construction skills all within a project of industrial quality and standard. My project incorporates Animatronics, Prosthetics, Scenic Design, Atmospherics, Lighting and Audio set-ups. My dragon utilises many Mechanical, Electrical, and Control set-ups to create its many movements and in turn bring character and life to it.

During my sandwich year on the course I worked at a top London Visual Effects company and worked on many productions and projects at various studios and locations. I have experience creating effects using Pyrotechnics, Fire, Compressed gases, Models, and Mechanical rigs to name but a few. My aim is to develop my knowledge and practical experience of the many areas that combine to create the world of special effects and to use this to become a key player in my chosen profession.
