Conceptual Craft: New Art from Norway
The field of arts and crafts in Norway is marked by its diversity of
forms and by its makers who struggle to find their own form of expression,
often in opposition to tradition. The pieces chosen for Conceptual Craft:
New Art from Norway are representative of this struggle. It is clear
that some makers have already left, or are leaving, the concept of use
behind when they create their works.
in the Usher Gallery, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see
the very best of contemporary craft from Norway and showcases exciting
new work by leading artists who work with materials as varied as silver,
textiles, ceramics, glass and even tin cans!
Headed by Lee Sass, Artlink have been working on-site with the Usher
Gallery and a group of adults with learning difficulties. This unique
partnership is celebrated by an exhibition in the Clore Education Room
at the Usher Gallery showing work produced over the last year.
