Eight-Fold Year at the No Glory Gallery, The Aquarium.
Created on a series of journeys and walks around Britain with his wife Maria, these little paintings (one for each day of the year) also represent a personal journey in a shamanic sense. Like the work of William Blake, they explore the world through dismemberment and reassembly with themes that have occupied the human state for literally thousands of years; life looked at from the cellular or organic level, to the universal and spiritual heights. They draw on the beauty and magic of the natural world in a very direct way, using abstract forms and ancient symbols that all speak of more connected modes of existence and awareness normally associated with wiser cultures than our own.

For those only familiar with Reid’s work with the Sex Pistols or his other politically charged graphic work, this more esoteric side of his creative practice comes as a bit of a surprise. But it is in fact all part of the same practice of challenging preconceived notions and prescribing alternative ways of seeing or questioning what is around us. This series of paintings with their supporting photographs are intimate, intensely beautiful, and present a calm reflective antidote to the big and brash culture that we’re faced with on a daily basis.

Ltd Edition Book, Prints, Bedding, Original Sex Pistols Collage.
The Aquarium will be making the first volume of a Ltd Edition four volume set year book to accompany the Eight-Fold Year exhibition, with the other three volumes to be made at intervals throughout the year. Also on sale will be The Aquarium’s extensive back catalogue of prints by Jamie Reid which will also include a new range of screen printed duvets & pillow cases featuring the infamous “Fuck Forever” design. The printed work will also be on exhibition at the Eyestorm Gallery on Maddox Street W1 from 13th June along with the original collage for God Save the Queen which, for the first time ever, is being offered for sale.
