- HYDROPHOBIA |
Current
show; HYDROPHOBIA Hydrophobia This exhibition draws together an international selection of contemporary artists who work with watercolours as part of their practice. Watercolour painting is one of those mediums that has suffered from too many traditional or amateur connotations, a stigmata that prevents it from being seen as a cutting edge practice. Despite this many contemporary artists have a personal commitment to this awkward medium. Hydrophobia
is both the fear of water and one of the symptoms of the viral disease,
Rabies. The ailing animal foams at the mouth and unable to swallow. It
becomes afraid of water and stops drinking. However, Rabies is a disease alien to the United Kingdom. Animals brought in from overseas are quarantined to protect the British Isles. For five weeks the gallery does the same; becoming the quarantine section for European watercolours. ---------------------------------------------- |
