VILMA
MARKAUSITE: Paintings
December
12th 2004 – January 30th 2005
Private View on Saturday December 18th, 7pm – 10pm
This month Vilma Markausite is moving to London. Born in Kaunas, Lithuania,
although this successful artist has lived here for periods since 1996,
this relocation to Palmers Green is to be more permanent, and what better
way to celebrate this than with a Christmas exhibition at her new local
gallery.
Vilma’s
paintings are at times touching, joyful, contemplative and tragic.
With subject matter ranging from dried fish to dancers; these images are
inspired by the people and strange fruit that she finds on her travels,
as well as by her family. Vilma has two daughters whom she thinks have
beautiful feet, therefore feet feature as somewhat of a trademark in her
work.
She also
works with bone china, painting on slabs, as well as making teapots, plates
and more recently, jewellery. Some of these will be presented on the private
view evening. Vilma has exhibited widely in both Lithuania and London,
this will be her ninth solo exhibition in only four years.
The Waiting
Rooms Gallery brings exhibitions of high quality art into a social atmosphere
and presents accessible affordable works by successful artists.
