Kinky Voodoo and Furthur are ridiculously proud to present Machine Drum
live in london, making his first trip over to these shores from his native
Florida, Travis Stewart aka Machine Drum is the heir apparent to Warp
Records star Prefuse 73's glich-hop crown. Taking the snap and crackle
of seminal electronica acts such as Autechre and fusing it with the crunchiest
hip-hop beats. His debut album 'Now You Know' was instantly hailed a classic
on it's release and the follow up 'Half The Battle' sealed his reputation
as one of the leaders of the new school.
To celebrate his arrival to these shores we've roped ins ome of the brightest
new talents from over here to back him up. Secondo the nomme de disque
of Radovan Scasascia has been quietly making a name for himself with his
releases on his own Dreck Records, being hailed as modern masterpieces,
intelligent cut ups of old pop records, stripping them down to their barest
components and rebuilding them in his own image.
Brighton based 3 piece Octavcat came to our attention last year, with
a sound reminiscent of early Plaid, augmented by their own visuals that
are manipulated and played throughout the show in accompaniment to the
music, with a second EP set to drop in the very near future on Blacknight
records, Octavcat are being tipped by those in the know as ones to watch
this year.
Showcasing the art of turntablism we have two of the best new DJs to have
appeared in the last year, Buddy Peace and Zilla, with a series of jaw
dropping mixtapes in the bag, the two west london boys have started moving
onto greater things, Buddy is resident DJ for Lex Records (warp's hip-hop
sub label) and has supported the likes of the Rapture on their last UK
tour, Zilla meanwhile has been hailed by no less a talent spotter than
Trash's Erol Alkan as one to take notice of, and is just putting the finishing
touches together for his debut EP on his own Bewilderd Beat Hedz label.
Tonight they will be showing just how much can be done, with four decks,
a big box of vinyl and an even bigger imagination.
