Artist
Statement:
My highly
formal sculptures make reference to themes of life, death and illness.
Based on material invention and “play”, I use clinical materials
symbolic of medical science, such as hypodermic needles, syringes, latex
gloves and plastic tubing.
Influences from Minimalism, such as simplicity, order, geometry and repetition
are my preferred form.
Fears and taboos are often underlying ingredients that can surface as
contrasting tensions or as an edge to the work.
The vulnerability of the body, new territories of the body (such as foreign
body parts), emotional states of illness and death, and the hospital as
institution are of particular interest.
