Artist Statement:

Iain Connell: Artist’s Biography

My Work utilizes the human figure as it’s starting point towards abstraction. I initially synthesize a number of abstract compositions in charcoal and oil paint on paper. During this process I can sense a tangible dialogue between each drawing which results in a final composition which is then followed through to it’s conclusion on canvas.
Since graduation in July 2002 I have been awarded the John Kinross Scholarship to Florence by the Royal Scottish Academy. I returned from Italy to Aberdeen in November 2002 and have worked as an Art tutor, Artist, Curator and Life Model since then. In June 2003 I received an Aberdeen Visual Artist’s Award to produce a new body of Artwork, the results of which can be viewed here.
I have also been involved in the administration of limousine bull Artists’ Collective Gallery in Aberdeen (www.limousinebull.net) where I curated an Exhibition entitled, ‘Phoenix: New Works Inspired by the Collection of Aberdeen Art Gallery’ in March 2003. I also wrote commentaries on the work of each of the ten Artists on display.
My work has been exhibited in numerous local and national Exhibitions over the last two years. A list of Exhibitions is provided below.
I have work in the collections of the Royal Scottish Academy and various private collectors. I am a member of the Scottish Artists’ Union.
