Artist Statement

Tunnel Vision

This work is an investigation of the psychogeography of interstitial urban spaces. Assumed to be purely functional and utilitarian, these splaces - the hallways of corporate office buildings, parking complexes, the subways of public transit systems, etc. - are never conceived of as destinations in themselves, but rather only as conduits for facilitating the flow of people from one place to another. Carefully planned by architects and engineers, these mundanely ubiquitous places mark the urban landscape, but their power to characterize and reshape both our social interactions and our relationship with the city is rarely investigated.
