About
me:
I am a self-taught bead artist working with traditional beading stitches
and techniques from around the world. Many of these date back for centuries
and I feel both fascinated and privileged to be able to carry on craft
forms that have such a rich heritage. I create all my own designs from
scratch and handcraft everything myself. I have been beading for over
ten years and am now a member of the Bead Workers Guild.
About my work:
I am fascinated by the rich variety of colour that beads offer and their
incredible adaptability – it is possible to make almost anything
from beads! I love the beauty of nature and like to incorporate it into
much of my work. My pieces almost always include flowers, sometimes stitched
and sometimes created with wire using the craft of French Beading, thought
to date back to medieval times. I create both jewellery and more ornamental
pieces such as vases and flower arrangements that take their inspiration
from the art of Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging). The arrangements
use very few flowers, but focus on creating a bold statement, with their
strong symmetry, drawing the eye in to appreciate each individual beaded
flower. I am happy to undertake commissions and create special pieces
for individuals – please get in touch!
