Statement:
My paintings are based on the interplay of colour, shape and texture. Suggesting
the evocative and emotive qualities of these components through simple combination.
Achieved by attempting to strike the balance between pitch, surface, hues
and composition.
I attempt to produce
strong images from this ‘minimal palette’ where the painting
becomes the object itself without the need to represent ‘something’.
Although the paintings represent something to me dependant on when, where
and how they came about I hope the work is ‘open’ enough for
the viewer to find their own response. To see if the work represents or
suggests something for them. This is what I enjoy in abstract art, the
attempt to create art that doesn’t try to send a message but creates
a ‘space’.
