statement:
As a kid I always liked the Dave Allen TV sketches where he sent
the clergy up something rotten dressed as the pope or a priest.
If he could do it for the catholics why couldn't I do for the C
of E I reasoned? One thing led to another and I now write and draw
gags which highlight human foibles and failings, using biblical
characters to illustrate my point. There is a serious motive though
- I hope it encourages people to take a look in the bible to find
out about the characters I lampoon.
I also like to work in collaboration with people, hence the yeloow
robed angel used by a friend on some giveaway bookmarks he had made,
or the Noah's Ark produced for the local Pre-School wall. Give kids
a picture and poster paints to colour it with and the results will
be unpredictable. The result won't always work but it's good to
let them express their creativity freely.
My work is normally B&W on paper, but I wanted to see how easy
it was to colour scanned images. I don't have any fancy software
like Photoshop, but I kinda like the quirky way dear old primitive
MS Paint turns the colour patchy when you save the file as a JPG
rather than a BMP. Here's hoping you find that happy discovery as
pleasing to the eye as I do.
