Artist
Statement:
Quite a few years ago I studied Sculpture at the Academia of Belle Arti
of Rome, before diversifying into acting with 3 years studies at the Pietro
Sharoff Drama School. My early performance pieces included Tableaux Vivants
where concepts of Italy and its tradition were explored, in particular
the cultures of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque. Since moving to England
in 1997 I have started to focus on sculpture and collage, and most recently
photography, digital drawings and installations. I explore with my work
notion of faith, belief and disbelief, through symbols representing good
and evil. Taking the philosophy of Manicheism as inspiration for my projects,
I intend to examine issues of psychology, relationships and discrimination
against women. In a visual sense this is achieved using ready-made objects
such as Barbie dolls and Rosary beads, hand made pieces or digitally manipulated
images, attempting to create an unsettling sense of collision in proximity
between traditional and new.
