Statement:
I have always
been interested in looking at the human body as a starting
point for my work. For my final year I decided to look at anatomy. I wanted
to design 'from the body for the body'. Using anatomical models for
inspiration, I have produced mainly knitted textiles.
I looked at bones, muscles and veins for shapes forms and texture. I looked
at the hardness of bones and the stretch of muscles, using elastics
to convey the idea of stretch.
I interpreted the qualities of areas of the body such as the brain and
intestines into fabric by producing tubes of knit and looked at scale
and
proportion to produce tighter and looser patterns.
