Artist Statement:
I am intrigued by the concept of place, how a place’s identity is
created. Also I am interested in how the concept of time relates to the
identity of a place, for example; what has happened there, and who has
been there. I like to think of my working process as a kind of archeology,
pulling things out of the depths of my consciousness, and also from the
depths of the image, scraping back and painting over.
This series of work focuses on the effect that the people which pass through
a place, have on its overall identity. The images are evocative of the
traces of energy left lingering in the air by people who have left the
scene. At the same time they also refer to the layers of time, which make
up the now, the idea that all human experience forms a collective consciousness,
a collective pool of experience.
