Like D.G. Rossetti, I too share the conviction that “…if a man has any poetry in him he should paint, for it has all been said and written, and they have hardly begun to paint it...”. As of late, my interests have emulated those that inspired Rossetti in creating the Pre-Raphaelite movement. I am inspired by the workings and beliefs of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and also artists of the Romantic period and develop my imagination through Romantic poetry and writings of all kinds. It was once said that “…if contemporary painting was to be great, it would never be so through following convention. It ought to be various, realistic and concerned with human emotion”…, I believe this to the fullest and try to achieve this through my work. My latest work has been concerned with the emotions inspired by human fears, particularly paranoia, which I find to be a huge outcome of fear itself. Most recently I have been drawn towards the fears that are conjured in children, particularly when associated with story-telling and such familiar fairy stories created by the Brothers Grimm, besides many other childhood authors.
