I enjoy the idea of challenging people’s thoughts, opinions and
ideas through my work.
Having had a children’s book on bullying published I feel I have
contributed to a worthwhile cause and have learnt a lot about the publishing
process.
Most of my work starts with an idea or a concept, which I explore in many
different techniques. I like to work with a line drawing as a starting
point and experiment with adding colour or texture through collage, ink
or the computer. I am particularly interested in different mark-making
and printmaking techniques
My work mainly consists of reportage as I enjoy observing, exploring and
recording unusual and interesting aspects of everyday life. I also have
a strong interest in children’s book illustration as I particularly
like sequential images and storytelling.
I carry out intensive research to inform my work and aim to communicate
my new understanding and experience through my pictures. I feel that the
best way to learn about something is to experience it first hand, which
in turn leads to stronger work. It gives a better insight and I aim to
convey this in my work.
I like there to be a strong relationship between the viewer and the work,
for them to interact and get involved with it or the idea of it.
I get my inspiration from; exhibitions, music, conversations, documentaries,
other artists, people, magazines, books, films, culture, travel and ideas.
I constantly keep sketchbooks and initiate my own projects to keep analysing
and observing the world around us.
I have a broad range of art and design skills, including; knowledge of
computer programmes Photoshop, Premier, Illustrator and Director, printmaking,
drawing, collage, design and layout, mounting, presentation, scanning,
printing, and CD burning. I continually experiment with new media and
new techniques to add to my existing skills.
