Artist Statement:

I am interested in the diaristic style of photography and a lot of my work; especially the most recent projects have been personal explorations into my life and my family. Themes of memory, absence and remembrance are dealt with in my work “Journey Back”, “I remember…” and “My Nan, Elsie”.

The images here from “Journey Back” are taken from the book I produced which depicts the transition between childhood and adulthood by the journey to and from the separate places called home.

“My Nan, Elsie” is taken from a series of 11 images about my Grandmother and preserving my memory of her. My images show the traces of her personality and her belongings that are significant to me and document her presence. Also exploring the fragility of one’s memories and of becoming old and how one’s mind becomes so fragile. This is an ongoing project for me, which I plan to make into a book.

I am also interested in the photo book which maintains this intimate/personal theme, particularly when looking at one’s family and exploring memories – how we try to document, preserve and store them, especially in the family album/snaps context.
