He is the artistic and kids programmes co-ordinator of the Cameroon Association for the Protection and Education of the Child. (CAPEC) He co-ordinates a programme Arts for Development where he initiates children in arts especially street children and orphans. He represents many international associations dealing with children’s arts and the environment. He is also a commission artist.

THE ARTIST AND ARTS

Arts as an opinion can be argued upon but as an expression of ideas it can be discussed. However abstract the art of Nereus Patrick CHEO ( NEPAC) may become, the idea is always very real and very concrete. Like an obstacle it must be seriously and intelligently faced because THE MIND of the artist is equally astute and serious. The fingers on clay and the stripe of brush portray the mind of the artist as a mirror of reality and society. Beyond NEPAC’s imagery therefore, the idea, however obscurely represented, defines reality in the most concrete and painful manifestations. Imagery and idea are similar to appearance and reality; what he moulds and paints. His imagery distorts realism because appearances are distorted forms of reality.

THE STYLE

NEPAC has a sober collection of different arts styles refreshingly different from the stereotyped trends one observes around Cameroon. It is modern, contemporary and abstract. True, but it is also traditional and conservative. NEPAC’s art respects ethical values and classical norms. It is a saturated cocktail of themes, forms, styles and colours, at times blending the un-similar and at others, divorcing the established. It may not always be new but Unique. The context is Cameroonian and Africa but the ideas are universally pertinent, moulded and painted in a singular world style appreciated by all.
