Pat Cahill Grant Artist Statement Theme: The theme of my work is texture, light, and colour, with inspiration coming from environmental / mechanical surfaces and the variation of texture and colour created by shadows, reflections and decay. Objective: The objective of my work is to view natural, urban, and mechanical objects from a different perspective outside of our normal colour spectrum. Technique: Initial photographic base images are taken deliberately out of context and scale. The processed images are then broken up with colour and highlights of surface texture. The final process is to invert and / or colour saturate the natural light reflections and texture of the image to achieve the desired results. Artists profile: Taking the mature candidate route, over the past 30 years I have periodically picked up the brushes and destroyed plenty of work that I was not happy with however, the passion to be creative never left and at 46 I work in isolation with my work being displayed and sold with international internet galleries and within my local community. Unfortunately I was not fortunate enough to follow an academic route within the art world due to a troublesome youth, however I did eventually developed a career in engineering that I have subsequently left to concentrate on and develop my artistic interests. |
