Artist Statement Vibrant contemporary paintings concerned with seductive surfaces, colours and paints. These modern works capture your attention and stretch your imagination. On first impressions the paintings seem purely abstract; but closer inspection reveals hidden characters. The abstract monochromes, or drip paintings, are obscured with creatures from the world of figurative or illustrative painting. Tensions are produced within the paintings by combining colours, industrial and artist's paints, and graphic and painterly styles. These tensions are exploited to create different effects - clashes to create nausea, seductiveness for beauty and subtlety for intrigue. While earlier works have been inspired by the horror and fantasy of the hybrid, the newer work takes a role of an abstract self-portrait; concerned still with the exploratry paint processes.
