Artist Statement:
My recent
work has been made in an attempt to explore the relationship between created
environments and constructed cultural notions of order, normality and
reality.
In my recent installation I obsessively painted an industrial space to
resemble a Disneyesque garden; exposed pipes become plant stems, and working
valves and plug sockets became delicate flowers. As well as suggesting
the corporate mechanics behind the illusion of fun and escape in many
modern commercial spaces, the work sought to speak of the darker side
of fantasy and imagination, each of the flowers concealing a potentially
lethal electric charge.
Using installation and performance, I am in the process of exploring our
cultural and personal relationship to fantasy and its potential as a device
for both manipulation and emancipation.
