Artist Statement Although
born and educated in the UK, I chose to study and work in Athens as I
am half-Greek and the culture and lifestyle appeals to me. I have presented
five solo exhibitions and participated in 3 group shows since 2000. Despite
contemporary artistic trends I have always been drawn to figurative art,
mainly in the surrealist tradition, although in my most recent work I
have tried to link back to Renaissance and medieval traditions of representation,
colour, and symbolism. I have always been fascinated by the subtleties
and symbolic methods to be found in these often snubbed traditions and
feel that there is space for their re-interpretation in our day. My themes
centre mainly around the esoteric and metaphysical with a definitely neo-romantic
edge, and my main goal is to take the viewer on a journey through the
use of archetypal imagery and bold colour to reconnect with a more old-
or even other-wordly sense of who we are and where we are going. My greatest
wish is to tell a story and reawaken memories through art, and for the
viewer to come away with a sense of the magical, all too often forgotten
in our technologically-dominated society. Solo
