Tracey Betts Artist Statement I have grown up in a life of constant change. Changes in homes, scenery, cultures and individuals has always been a subject I have focussed on creatively. Art is an outlet to emotions inspired from the numerous moves in my life. As I was a follower as a child, it is now engrained in me to experience as much of what is possible in life and to not sit motionless in one place for too long. I have drawn since an early age. I was content to create, make something that didn’t exist. Something that was al mine. I appreciated the simple artistic talent I had and have since developed. To paint was all I wanted to do and continued to study at St. Vincent College and University of Portsmouth. I then moved to Holland for three years, where I experimented in sculpture and progressed in portraiture. Upon moving back to the UK, work has overridden the last few years focus from painting, however, travelling has inspired a new phase in my life, in which I wish to continue and deliver for all to view. I seem to be contemplating on memories of places I fondly remember in my current collection. Using images of places around the world I’ve travelled to. Using people I’ve laughed with, places we’ve discovered together, creating times not to be forgotten. Learning of cultures, lives and evolving landscapes, watching native animals. A subject I shall continue in life and record on canvas. I like to put a time and place on a painting, a visual diary, no words needed, to evoke a feeling, a smell, a moment in life.
