Artist
Statement:
I make images using digitally manipulated photographs often printed onto tissue paper and incorporated into paint on canvas. Recently as part of my studies, I am using photography more directly.
My inspiration comes from the perspective of myself as a woman and a mother. Recently I have produced images of the male figure, emphatically from a female perspective. Also in the way I portray them there is a conscious reference to the tradition of iconic images of women, made mainly by male painters in the past.
I have also begun to find the symbolism of my Catholic heritage starting to creep into the imagery.
Lately I have taken my camera to the ageless-ness of stone statuary in churches and cathedrals and forged a link with the mediaeval artist by bringing his impassive-faced figures into the present as characters in my own artwork.
I am currently studying for a Masters Degree in Fine Art at University of Lincoln. I am an experienced Workshop Leader and I also sell Tshirts and art cards featuring my images.
