Artist Statement

The main inspiration for my work comes from humorous social situations and the people and places that suggest them. Some of my pieces however, are just purely fantasy often combining my twin interests: fashion and food! Although my work has a contemporary consumer-culture feel, often inspired by style magazines, I ensure that each piece is unique by incorporating materials including coloured card, beads and fabric. This method of working gives my pieces a 3D feel, even when reproduced digitally. I maintain a certain ambiguity about their identity by representing them as silhouettes. As someone who is interested and influenced by fashion, two of my illustration heroes are 1920's fashion illustrator Erte and Aubrey Beardsley. I completed a BA Hons Degree in Illustration in 2004 at The University of Brighton and previously attended Wimbledon School of Art to study Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.

Recently I have exhibited my work in several venues in the UK, including the Islington Art & Design Fair and forthcoming Battersea Art fair and have completed several commissions, including Christmas cards for Paperchase and greetings cards for The Almanac Gallery. I hope to continue to work on my interests and themes, developing and expanding my style and designs. I would be like to continue designing greetings cards and work for magazines, but I would also like to work in books and clothing and design.
